This oak & cream painted kitchen was installed in a beautiful, several hundred year old listed cottage. The ceilings in this very traditional kitchen were very low and part of the kitchen where the AGA is was original part of the house. This was carefully extended out to create an open plan kitchen, with Island and dinning area off to one side.
The kitchen island was made from solid oak and then oiled to leave a natural look and blend in with the natural oak floor and beams. As none of the walls in the kitchen were straight, everything had to be scribed into the kitchen walls to make this luxury fitted kitchen look perfect. All of the ends were tied together with the rest of the kitchen with oak pilasters, which blended perfectly with the antiqued cream paint finish.
Amanda & Graham's brief was to make the kitchen as natural as possible and not look out of place with the existing features of this listed cottage, we believe this was achieved using oak and antiqued cream doors. Also the low ceilings meant we had to lower all the wall units a make them smaller in height, this in the end gave the customer useable cupboard space even with the limited height of the ceiling.
We used natural oak on the kitchen island and the cabinets were painted in cream with the edges rubbed back to create an aged, antiqued look. The drawer boxes were made from solid oak and had dovetailed joints, together with softclose drawer runners to give a luxury, modern touch to a mainly traditional kitchen.
To top off this oak and cream painted kitchen we used Antiqued Zimbabwe Granite with honed edges, which creates a very rustic feel to the kitchen, which was in keeping with the traditional look that the customer wanted.
