Mr & Mrs Yonge came to us after seeing our sign, outside of our showroom in Bentworth, Hampshire. They were looking for a handmade kitchen for their cottage local to our showroom. The room it was going into was quite a long and relatively narrow area but with the huge amount of expertise our designer Mark has it was easy to come up with a great design. The area allowed two furniture runs. One side had top and bottom cupboards that created the main prep-area as well as a small peninsula with the customerís original corner sink and a large amount of storage below.
On the other side we had more top and bottom cupboards, Mark was able to fit a large Bosch induction hob as well as two Samsung side by side single ovens, which provided a lot of flexibility when cooking. This was all coved by an Elica chimney hood. We also managed to fit in a built in microwave in a bespoke cupboard unit to the right of the hood, making efficient use of space and took up no worktop area.
The Yongeís kitchen is based on a hard wood, legs in-frame furniture design. This basically means that instead of the doors sitting over the cabinet the doors are set into the frame as well as the front legs. For aesthetics this is usually created in the same hard wood as the doors and painted in the same colour (or lacquered to show the grain). On some kitchens we have also added some kind of beading for extra detail but Kate wanted a simple and contemporary look so she went with a flat frame with a simple shaker door.
All of the furniture for this project was painted in one colour, this being Farrow & Ballís Teresaís Green.
As usual this kitchen features our high quality, handmade construction with thick 30mm doors and drawer fronts as well as quality oak drawer boxes using the best dovetail joints. This ensures their kitchen will last a lifetime. The interiors of the cupboards are finished in a birch veneer (clear lacquered) laid on to quality waterproof plywood. All of the drawers use modern runners with built in soft-close for that touch of luxury as well as hidden magnets on the cupboards for auto-closing, which retains the traditional satin butt hinges. Another nice feature that you donít always see on many kitchens is the skirting style plinth with toe-hole cut-outs, these add that extra traditional feel to the design.
The worktops in this kitchen are from Caesarstone who produce many styles of engineered worktop. What that means is that quartz (found in granite) is ground and bound together using different materials which create a non-porous, heat and scratch resistant material that can be dyed and patterned with many colours and reflective materials to produce a very interesting material. Mr & Mrs Yonge chose 20mm Caesarstone 7141 which is a white speckled worktop with flecks of small mirrored stone. To match the worktops they chose coloured glass (Opticolour White Rainbow Sparkle) for the splash-backs with subtle glitter within. Now this might sound a little too sparkly but it worked to great effect and is only seen as certain lights and angles. Overall it adds to the simple, subtle contemporary look of the kitchen as a whole.
The main appliances in the kitchen where once again Bosch. We have dealt with Bosch for many years and found their products to be exemplary in both our kitchen projects and our own home. For the Yongeís kitchen they chose a Bosch 5 zone Flexi-Induction hob with brushed steel trim (PIP875N17E), a Bosch Built-in brushed steel microwave (HMT75M551B), a Bosch fully integrated fridge/freezer (KIL38A65) and finally an Elica Galaxy hood with black glass detailing (BLIX/A/80). The main focus of the room are the side-by-side Samsung single ovens (BT621VDST, also clients own, not sourced by us) which as said earlier, provide great flexibility when cooking.
